Wokeness is Destroying the Minds and Bodies of its Followers
How the Ideology of the Modern Left Produces, Recruits, and Reveres Severe Mental and Physical Illness
I have been obsessively studying physical and mental health for over 20 years now as, for most of my life, I suffered from a range of crippling mental and physical illnesses. Using what I learned, I was able to cure myself of the health issues that plagued my life for so many years, and now I seek to help others achieve the same.
I have been fascinated by ideological zealotry and cognitive dissonance since I was a kid (and their impact on the body and mind), and Wokeness has proven to be the most extreme, insidious, dangerous, and destructive source of these things I have ever encountered.
I truly wish I didn't have to get “political” on Substack or in public, in general, but the destruction of wokeness is paramount to my ULTIMATE goal:
Helping people improve their mental and physical health.
First, let’s define “Wokeness”.
Wokeness is the contemporary, postmodern, Gnostic, neo-Marxist iteration of communism. One could reasonably consider it to be American Maoism. It is a far-left ideological movement that focuses on integrating a variety of “disciplines” and belief systems into politics, economics, law, and culture. This includes things like:
Critical theories (queer theory, gender theory, race theory, etc.), DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), SEL (social emotional learning), intersectionality, “social justice”, “sustainability”, “anti-fascism”, “anti-racism”, and much more.
In essence, Wokeness is an insincere, resentment-driven, revolution-seeking, grievance-based (Critical) ideology which seeks to eliminate largely (though not entirely) fabricated social, economic, political, institutional, and cultural injustices and inequities. One of the primary ways it seeks to achieve these goals is by forcibly imposing a “Critical Consciousness” onto people (a Critical Theory-based, resentment-laden mind virus). A critical consciousness is effectively just a social and environmental justice, grievance-based, political identity-obsessed worldview which identifies and validates the proposed injustices of the Woke, as well as encourages people to find them wherever they look for them, whether they truly exist or not.
If that definition is insufficient, here’s a great one courtesy of Viva Frei:
I argue that Wokeness recruits, causes, exacerbates, depends on, and is a safe haven for mental and physical illness. In this post, I’ll cover a woefully incomprehensive list of reasons why.
In order to understand exactly why this is, we must first understand and accept some fundamental truths about the most common manifestations of mental illness. This includes anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity disorders. While some of these conclusions may seem unfamiliar to many, or at odds with what you’ve been told or have come to understand, they are supported by mountains of evidence correlating across multiple disciplines, and they are extremely accurate.
If you’d like to learn more about these conclusions, you can do so here.
If you can allow yourself to at least temporarily accept these conclusions as truth (if even just for the sake of testing their validity on your own), you will find them repeatedly validated wherever you encounter examples of them.
Please note that while these descriptions are accurate in a general sense, they do not, and cannot paint the full picture for each individual experience. They are truths shared by all people who experience these states, but that does not mean they can account for every potential element of a given person’s experience.
Helplessness:
Inability to take action against experiences – the feeling of having no, or limited control.
Agency:
The opposite of helplessness; the ability to take action and exercise some level of control over your experiences and life, or to accept that which you cannot control.
The “Feeling” and “Thinking” Selves:
Generally speaking, the “feeling self” is primarily concerned with your nervous system, the right side of the brain, the hippocampus, the amygdala, the heart, and the gut. The feeling self is exactly what it sounds like (what you feel), but there’s a bit more to it than that.
Instinct, desire, emotions and, of course, what you physically feel, are all experiences of the feeling self. In many ways, your feeling self is the core of your identity; it is the part of you that largely operates in the world without your specific and purposeful instruction. It’s the part of you that dominated the experiences of your life in infancy; the part of you that “reacts” to experiences before your conscious mind has time to catch up. If someone pops out from behind a corner and startles you, it is your feeling self generating the reaction. Similarly, the automated feeling of apprehension you develop while approaching a corner, if you’ve been startled one too many times, is also part of your feeling self!
The thinking self, on the other hand, is more concerned with the left side of your brain, the prefrontal cortex, and other parts of the cerebrum. This “thinking self” is what you’re currently using to read this post, to consider what’s in it, to decide what you’re going to do when you’ve finished, etc. It also happens to be the part of you that separates you from a purely instinctual animal.
We have something no other animal has, though: A well-developed ability to notice, conceptualize, evaluate, critique, and communicate with ourselves at a high level. In other words, we have a “Thinking Self” which exists in a constant relationship with our “Feeling Self”. This means that, unlike other animals, we are capable of observing our own suffering, coming to conclusions about it, and even learning to resent ourselves and others for it. If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Why do I keep doing this?”, then you’re already intimately aware of what it’s like to use your thinking self to question, consider, and observe your feeling self. There are many important implications of this fact, some of which come into play in this particular discussion.
Of course, these are gross oversimplifications that leave out a large number of contributing systems and complex interactions, but they can help to distinguish between our more automated, instinctual, and emotional functions versus our purposeful, logical, and contemplative ones.
It should be noted that many of these systems are far from perfectly understood, and there are certainly disagreements regarding their functions and relationships with one another. Despite the inevitable disagreements, many of humanity’s findings on these systems corroborate strongly across multiple disciplines which seek to understand the experience and function of human life, and there are an incalculable number of ways to learn about and understand them. I have chosen to simplify them into the thinking and feeling selves because I believe these monikers are satisfactory for understanding their functions and relationships with each other as they pertain to the subject matter discussed in this post, and the experiences of human life tend to comfortably fall within one or both of these generalized “selves”.
Okay, so what does this have to do with depression, anxiety, and trauma? And how does Wokeness come into play?
Let’s start with anxiety, as it is undoubtedly the most commonly shared experience of the three.
Anxiety:
Cause: Momentary feelings of helplessness in the feeling self.
Anxiety is a type of creativity, and creativity is a process the brain engages in to achieve agency (the opposite of, and “antidote” to helplessness) over some element of our existence in the world. Whether it’s problem-solving, innovation, pursuing curiosity, brainstorming, creating art, etc. Creativity is simply an attempt to understand something about the world or ourselves, and exercise our agency over it; it is one of the ways we contribute to, develop our relationship with, and come to understand reality.
Creativity is triggered when we instinctually or purposefully see a potential benefit of exercising it. Anxiety is negative creativity exercised in a misguided attempt to achieve agency over difficult past or future experiences. We are either worried about something that has already happened, or something that might happen, and we attempt to prepare ourselves for the worst possible implications of these experiences. We are attempting to experience a sense of control over the things which have caused, or may cause us pain, and we do this by using our negative creativity to simulate potential experiences. Unfortunately, we have no ability to achieve present agency (short of acceptance) over past or future experiences and so, by attempting to achieve it, we experience helplessness, instead.
Of course, it’s not necessarily true that you can’t do anything about whatever it is you feel helpless toward, but your body isn’t always going to factor this truth in before it starts freaking out and causing you to feel powerless and anxious. In many cases, the damage is done long before we are able to consider whether or not it was necessary.
Trauma:
Cause: Experience of severe helplessness which becomes deeply, and improperly integrated into the feeling self.
Trauma is a moment, or series of moments in which we experience a perception of severe and overwhelming helplessness. When the body experiences particularly debilitating helplessness, it attempts to automatically protect us by integrating what it perceives as exceptionally threatening elements of the experience into the feeling self (nervous system, emotional brain, etc.), so as to automatically protect us from similar threats in the future. If the body is helpless to exercise agency against the threat itself, then it will, instead, exercise agency against your experience of the threat.
Trauma is a messy, incomplete, and maladaptive integration of exceedingly painful experiences into the self. This “messiness” occurs as a result of the desperation of the mind and body to “help” us survive what is otherwise felt as a profoundly helpless, and potentially life-threatening experience.
Depression:
Cause: Persistent and repeated helplessness integrated into the feeling self.
Depression is a function of your perceived inability to effectuate your needs and desires in day-to-day life. It is a survival adaptation which occurs when persistent and/or severe helplessness become integrated into the feeling self, and corrupt large chunks of our identity and ability to exercise agency in every-day life.
Unlike trauma and anxiety, depression is a sustained, often ever-present experience of helplessness. The severity of depression depends on the extent to which our identity and lives have been corrupted by the helplessness, and how severe and often that helplessness is felt.
If your body and mind feel severely and/or persistently helpless in their ability to produce and acquire your needs and desires; the things you want from your life, then they will adapt to a low-energy state of metabolic dysfunction and defeat. We are, after all, adaptation machines. Depression, like trauma, is a maladaptive, physiological survival response, and a body which has adapted to helplessness has no reason to operate at full capacity. The body makes every attempt to avoid waste and, when energy against an experience repeatedly proves wasteful, the body will simply stop, or reduce its ability to provide it.
Despite what many believe, depression is a very real psychological AND physiological condition. Don’t believe me? For the science-literate, here’s a woefully incomplete list of physiological changes which have been conclusively demonstrated to occur in people suffering from severe depression:
Decreased number of mitochondria
Decreased mitochondrial health
Reduction in ATP signaling, production, and efficiency
Severely reduced and misallocated brain activity/energy
Presence of high-beta brain waves, and absence of alpha waves
Dorsal Vagal Complex dysregulation (permanent fight, flight, or freeze state)
Severe endocrine disruption (too many examples to list)
Physical damage to the nervous system, and cooperating systems
The adaptation to a state of depression is often accompanied by varying degrees of numbness (dorsal vagal freeze and/or metabolic dysfunction), as the body becomes incapable of tolerating further suffering, particularly the severity of suffering experienced while the nervous system is functioning normally (without having been corrupted by depression). Essentially, the nervous system (and other bodily systems) decides that the only way to survive is to shut down its ability to feel and exist in any normal capacity.
When an animal feels helpless against its suffering for long enough, its nervous system becomes trained to accept defeat. This is a survival mechanism in which the nervous system has come to understand that nothing it does appears to have any impact on reducing the suffering experienced, and so, depending on the severity of the suffering, it shuts down or changes certain parts of itself. Instead of operating normally and “living” alongside the animal, it enters a low-energy state of survival.
Identity Disorders (Not Comprehensive):
Resentment, fear, anger, hatred, etc. toward one or more elements of your identity you hold responsible for your experiences of helplessness/suffering, resulting in dissociation and/or development of an abusive relationship between your thinking and feeling selves.
Helplessness-induced dentity disorders are essentially abusive relationships between you and yourself; between your conscious and contemplative mind, and the feeling, intuitive body it is constantly observing, considering, criticizing, etc. When a person experiences helplessness in sufficient severity and duration, the eventual development of one or more identity disorders is guaranteed.
There are practically an unlimited number of things which can cause or exacerbate all of these conditions, including poor nutrition, poor physical health, toxic environment and relationships, lifestyle choices, addiction and, yes, ideology.
Ideology is simply a system of beliefs. Your body and mind tend to follow your beliefs, which means your beliefs can easily lead you to experience, as well as feed helplessness, agency, or both.
Okay, so why is Wokeness so bad?
For too many reasons to name in one Substack post, but let’s discuss some of the big ones.
Resentment:
Resentment is the experience of feeling bitterly and obsessively angry toward someone or something for having wronged you – typically repeatedly and/or severely. Wokeness is a religion of narcissism and resentment which not only demands you experience resentment as a result of things like marginalization, “oppression", racism, sexism, inequity, etc., to obtain membership, but to actively search for it, encourage it in others, wear it proudly, and even create opportunities for it where it was not at all needed or warranted.
Resentment is the lifeblood of Wokeness, and of all iterations of Gnosticism/Marxism before it. It fuels the movement and guides its actions and convictions, as well as the people who partake in it, whether they realize it or not (often vicarious resentment masquerading as compassion and virtue). Every past iteration of Wokeness (it’s been around for a very, VERY long time) has depended on the resentment engine of malcontented revolutionaries and pathologically compassionate, wishful, overly-agreeable, or conflict-averse “innocents” to drive it forward.
Wokeness, like the many iterations of communism which came before it, excels at capturing these well-intentioned, compassionate, idealistic, creative, openminded “innocents”. It takes advantage of their qualities and desires, weaponizes them, and eventually corrupts them.
Resentment is one of the primary reasons why the Woke demonstrate such anger and aggression in their condemnation of everything that isn’t Woke. Sufficient resentment prevents humanization of those seen as responsible for producing the resentment (including themselves). High levels of resentment, quite literally, prevent the ability to express empathy toward those whom are held responsible for producing the resentment. Resentment also instills tremendous fear into people who regularly experience high levels of it.
Fear, like resentment, has profoundly negative impacts on our physiology and psyche.
Here’s an incomplete list of things which happen to our bodies and minds as a result of living in chronic or intense states of fear:
Decreased cognitive ability (memory, creativity, decision-making, processing speed, problem-solving, etc.)
Overwhelming resentment and negativity towards others and self
Inability to form and/or maintain healthy relationships
Decrease in physical health (immune system, cardiovascular damage, gut issues, rapid weight gain/loss, decreased fertility, permanent damage to the nervous system, accelerated aging, and countless other things)
Loss of emotional regulation and ability to develop emotional fortitude and proficiency
Impulsive and destructive behaviors towards self and others
Constant fatigue and countless mental illnesses
Inability to perceive reality objectively (drowning in cognitive dissonance)
Hormone dysregulation
Loss of empathy and compassion for yourself and others
A deep and unhealthy yearning for safety
A drastically increased propensity to experience trauma
A willingness to allow others to control and direct your life for you, including things which will destroy your agency and freedom
Reduced ability to erect, maintain, and enforce boundaries
The Woke necessarily see themselves and their “tribe” as victims of severe and repeated mistreatment and injustice, whether real or perceived. Resentment is always accompanied by, as well as exacerbates feelings of helplessness in the person experiencing it. A resentful person is a person who has identified with and internalized their victimhood, and a self-identifying victim is someone who believes their agency has been taken from them. If a person believes their agency has been taken, then they will manifest a state of helplessness whether they truly are victims, or simply believe themselves to be. This is one of the primary reasons why the Woke experience such severe rates of anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity disorders.
When you live in resentment, are encouraged to search for it, and create it at every conceivable opportunity, you destroy your body and mind with profound helplessness and self-loathing.
Can you spot the people who live in fear and resentment? Do you notice any patterns?
The Role of Cognitive Dissonance:
Cognitive dissonance is a survival instinct which protects you from the experience of having your emotional investment toward your beliefs invalidated upon being proven wrong. Sustained resentment requires a massive emotional investment. Since the amount of emotional investment powerfully correlates with the strength of a belief, and Woke ideology demands and propagates resentment-producing convictions, the Woke are both guided and inhibited by staggering levels of cognitive dissonance, typically without being the least bit aware of it.
This is why the Woke tend to so adamantly avoid and condemn potential experiences of invalidation of themselves and their ideology, as well as react so aggressively to the threat of invalidation, and anyone who may facilitate it. Their entire identities depend on the continued validation of their beliefs and resentment; on the preservation of their emotional investment and cognitive dissonance. Of course, this isn’t unique to the Woke; this behavior can be observed in ALL ideologies which excel at recruiting and producing zealous followers.
Lastly, severe resentment of the self eliminates one’s ability to generate self-worth/value internally. This is one of the reasons why the Woke are obsessed with EXTERNAL validation, affirmation, participation, attention, etc. It’s also why they feel their very existence is threatened when people refuse to provide them with these things – nearly ALL of their value and sense of self has come to depend on receiving them. Refusal to affirm their tenuous sense of self is often perceived by them as literal violence, or even genocide. They have effectively held their value hostage to the validation of others, and the validation they seek is that of their delusions and desires.
Victimhood mentality:
Victimhood is a requirement of Wokeness, which is not surprising considering the ideology runs on resentment. Since resentment is the belief of having experienced severe victimization, it can be said that Wokeness also runs on victimhood.
What’s wrong with being a victim?
Nothing.
That is, until you begin identifying with your victimhood, and encouraging others to do the same, whether they truly are victims, or not. Victimhood, like resentment, is a state of helplessness. Remember what helplessness causes? When you identify with victimhood, you are purposefully engaging in a profound act of self-abnegation; you are relinquishing your precious agency over one or more areas of your life, and granting it to those who you perceive as having victimized you. The more things you identify as a victim of, the more helplessness you experience.
So, what happens to people who’ve been encouraged to both recognize and identify with their own victimhood, or with victimhood that doesn’t even belong to them (again, real or perceived)? Well, they are primed to experience severe anxiety, depression, trauma, and identity disorders.
As already partially discussed, Wokeness is an ideology that depends on the identification of perceived injustices and wrongdoings, whether or not they actually exist. The ideology DEPENDS on identifying and creating these things as, at its heart, it is a revolutionary, Marxist religion which seeks to achieve a “just” and “equitable” society through social constructionism and other means. Without grievances to stoke the ideological energy of its followers, the movement would fizzle out.
What’s the best way to both create and propel revolutionaries? The answer to this question has been well understood for over a century, and was used to great effect in a number of revolutions, including Mao’s cultural revolution in China, and Lenin’s cultural revolution in the Soviet Union.
The answer is to aggressively create and assert conditions to bolster the resentment and victimhood of would be revolutionaries, then capitalize on the resulting revolutionary energy. “Accelerate the contradictions.”, as Vladimir Lenin put it.
Convince enough people (particularly young, naive, and idealistic) of the pervasiveness of things that result in resentment/victimhood, get them to embrace and identify with them, and you’ve got an army of resentful, zealous, dogmatic activists at your disposal. Wokeness is far from the first ideology to embrace this strategy, and it won’t be the last.
Victimhood is a rationalizing, mental and physical illness-inducing poison. Victimhood is the reason why the Woke are so often opposed to self-responsibility; it is the reason they tend to blame their problems, and the problems of their “tribe” on others. When you welcome the helplessness of victimhood into your life, you willingly give up your ability to accept personal responsibility, and achieve meaningful and honest introspection.
When you embrace victimhood into your identity, you give yourself permission to blame your suffering on anyone other than yourself; you trade your agency for the comforting validation that, of course, you could not possibly be the one responsible for your suffering. If it were conceivably true that you played a role in your suffering, and that perhaps some of your grievances are unfounded, then what might that imply about you? What might it imply about the other people captured by your ideology? What might it imply regarding the claims of the ideology which you have come to invest your entire identity into, and accept as true? What might it imply about the ideology itself?
By committing to the general belief that other people are responsible for the suffering of you and your tribe, you avoid the possibility of a traumatic, shame-filled, cascading collapse of all beliefs which depend on the validity of that general belief. Cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug, and the Woke abuse it religiously.
Lastly, Wokeness has provided victims with social capital and protection as a result of claiming victimhood. What could be more appealing to a person who has come to require external validation for their value than the promise of immediate social elevation and protection? What could be more appealing to say, a teenager whose primary concern in life is fitting in and feeling valued, unique, and important? Just slap some unconventional pronouns in your bio and you will receive praise, support, special treatment, rabid protection against naysayers, and a place amongst likeminded “allies” and ideologues.
If you are struggling to believe this scenario represents reality, simply take some time to listen to and observe the experiences of current middle and high-schoolers. If they refuse to choose a “marginalized” identity of some kind, they are often ostracized, bullied, or seen as “oppressors”. Meanwhile, those who choose exceptionally “Queer” (anti-"normal” without essence) identities stand to gain immediate social elevation and acceptance. The more “anti-normal" the identity, the more social capital gained. Is this at all surprising in an ideology based on victimhood and power acquisition?
Self-loathing people already tend to feel an overwhelming desire to “fit in”, and be accepted and valued. What happens when you promise them unlimited, unearned virtue, and a venerated social membership under the conditions they simply embrace their victimhood, encourage others to do the same, and attack anyone who disagrees?
Victimhood both produces and exacerbates mental and physical illness, and the Woke are encouraging it, identifying with it, celebrating it, rewarding it, and constantly searching for new sources with which to experience it.
Encouragement of Identifying with Singular Elements of Identity
As with the encouragement to identify with victimhood, the Woke also tend to encourage embracing and identifying with singular elements of identity such as desires, sex, gender expression, race, income status, and even mental disorders.
Why is this bad?
Because there is no such thing as a person whose identity is entirely, or even largely defined by any singular element of their being. Identity is a collection of ALL that we are; of ALL our experiences and traits, whether we were born with them, developed them at some point in our lives, or both. Identity confusion and development are natural and necessary parts of living through childhood and early adulthood. No one comes to a thorough understanding of their identity without investing significant time and effort.
What is one of the most reliable ways to outright corrupt, or at least interfere with the development and understanding of our identities?
The answer is purposefully identifying the entirety, or majority of ourselves with singular elements of our identities – particularly victimized elements. Our identities will not long tolerate being forced into a tiny box of our, or someone else’s choosing. If we didn’t resent them already, we can absolutely expect to if we attempt this, especially when we purposefully choose victimized identities.
Purposefully choosing a victimized identity is like choosing the parachute with holes in it before a sky dive. Did it get you some attention from others?
Sure.
Who’s going to pay the price for that attention?
You are.
Not only will we experience resentment and helplessness when we force ourselves into victimized identities, but we delay the PROPER and NATURAL development of our identities. We have stunted their growth by reducing them to desire-oriented, ever-changing, singular elements. How can we expect to grow in any complete sense if we’re primarily using one element of our identities to define us, and incorrectly so?
But why would someone feel compelled to force their identity into a tiny box of their choosing?
Because a suffering body intuitively understands that agency is a path out of suffering, and identifying with these singular elements has been repeatedly and aggressively proposed, by the Woke, as a viable and natural solution to identity disorders and suffering.
When we force our identities into those tiny boxes (simplification), we experience a temporary sense of agency. After all, we are taking action against our suffering or, at least, we have allowed ourselves to be convinced that we are. Simplifying their identities into singular elements makes those identities easier to understand and manage, as well as validates the beliefs, experiences, and emotions of the woke ideologue. For the Woke, this simplification is a perfect fit. It gives them a relatively effortless path toward experiencing agency (relief from suffering through reduction of complexity), and it validates their worldview.
The longer a person can convince their minds/bodies they are exercising agency over their life by forcing their identities into these boxes, the longer they can experience a sense of relief from their suffering. Unfortunately, reality always catches up with them eventually.
Destruction of Reality:
There has never been, nor will there ever be a war waged against reality in which reality comes away the loser.
Wokeness, among other things, is also a religion of purposeful reality murder and subversion. When the foundation of your most cherished beliefs, the preservation of your cognitive dissonance, the entirety of your identity, your social circle, and your very existence depends on the subversion of and refusal to accept certain aspects of reality, you guarantee yourself a life of helpless misery.
Why do human beings have such a natural aversion to deception and lies?
Because nature has determined that adherence to reality is a necessity for survival. We evolved alongside reality, which means we have evolved to require respect, understanding, and acceptance of it in order to thrive. Refuse to adhere to reality often or severely enough, and you will experience tremendous chaos, helplessness, and suffering.
In the religion of Wokeness, objective truth and epistemic adequacy (among others) are considered to be creations and purposefully perpetuated systems of white supremacy, patriarchy, colonialism, oppression, etc.
2+2 = 5
Men can become women, and vice versa
Everything is a social construct
All inequity is oppression
Everyone politically right of Stalin is a Nazi
Children are done knowing themselves when they decide they are
Everything is racist
Merit is oppression
You’re the one gaslighting, not me
To a sufficiently Woke person, every single one of these claims (or something very close) not only makes sense, but is necessary for adherence to, and the survival of the ideology. You may NOT believe otherwise, or you are an oppressive, hateful, far-right bigot.
Wokeness both teaches and demands compliance of reality-defying claims and beliefs.
But why?
The reasons are too numerous to cover thoroughly here (the history of Gnosticism is a long and complicated one), but here’s some of the bigger ones.
Preservation of feelings, values, beliefs, power, and the movement itself (or at least the goals of the movement), are FAR more important than reality. To the Woke, the experience of being invalidated (for many of the reasons I’ve already covered) must be avoided at all costs. Since Wokeness is a neo-marxist, revolutionary ideology which depends on its resentful revolutionaries to persist, the movement must necessarily protect, validate, sustain, and encourage the grievances of its followers, whether or not they exist in reality.
As Thomas Sowell put it: “Racism is not dead, but it is on life support — kept alive by politicians, race hustlers and people who get a sense of superiority by denouncing others as “racists."
Racism, and every other conceptual enemy of the Woke, is often fabricated, sustained, or even created by Wokeness as a means of legitimizing and validating its existence. Wokeness abuses the very concepts of reality and truth to terrifying degrees.
One of the ways it does this is by designating “lived experience” as the ultimate form of truth (a profoundly Gnostic value). This is encouraged because if a victim’s lived experience is all that is required to assert a truth, and the assertion of that truth validates the reality which they claim is responsible for their victimhood, then the inarguable and pervasive presence of injustice and wrongdoing are affirmed. Simply put, the ideology depends on the truth of lived experience to validate its claims, because ACTUAL reality repeatedly fails to validate them.
Imagine the following:
You are handed two books. One book holds only the truths that align with reality. The other book holds whatever you wish to be true - it is a effectively a work of reality fanfiction. Which book would you choose? What kind of people do you think would choose the fanfiction book over the true one? What if refusal to embrace the fanfiction was met with overwhelming hostility, and even violence?
This is one of the most reliable ways Wokeness captures the “innocents” I mentioned previously. These “innocents” wouldn’t dare question the truth of the lived experience of a “victim”, as these innocents tend to be extremely conflict-averse, external validation-dependent, pathologically compassionate, and overly charitable/trusting caretakers and “nurturers”.
Instead of invalidating the person’s lived experience and risk hurting them, being seen as bigoted/part of the problem, ostracizing themselves from their social circle, etc., they feel a sense of duty to provide a “safe space” for, and protect these people at all costs. Wokeness has taught these innocents that the “voices” and lived experiences of marginalized/oppressed people must be elevated and accepted as truth in order to make up for past and present injustices against them.
The “innocents” have come to accept (at least, outwardly) that these victims have no reason to lie or stretch the truth; they have been telling the truth for years, but no one was listening! These poor victims are at serious risk for trauma, depression, anxiety, etc., and they need to be protected, validated, affirmed, and believed - NO MATTER WHAT. Otherwise, the pervasive, perceived injustices and wrongdoings whose existence these caretakers have become convinced of (often bullied into accepting) cannot be remedied.
They believe it is their job to be “allies” to these victims, and that they are part of the solution. In reality, they are perpetuating the murder of truth by validating lies and delusions - often from a position of highly influential authority. They are giving strength and credibility to the lies. But what choice do they have? After all, we’ve all seen what happens to those who refuse to go along with the Woke nonsense. Many of these people feel that their entire lives may be at stake if they engage in dissidence of any kind.
When an ideology is built on lies, the “toppling” of one piece has a domino effect in which, by revealing the falsity of that piece, all other “pieces” which were arrived at using the same systems of reasoning (neo-Marxist, Gnostic, dialectical, intersectional, critical theory bullshit) will collapse. The Woke tend to be intuitively aware of this fact, which is why they so often “borrow” things like objective truth, and use partial-truths in order to construct, fortify, and preserve their assertions.
Marry a truth to a lie.

The Woke don’t concede ground – they must necessarily double down so as to preserve the bastardized cohesion of the ideology. Conceding even an inch would be catastrophic to their system of beliefs, as every inch reveals the absurdity and untruth of the entirety of the space behind it. Nearly everything about the Woke ideology is built on a foundation of partial truths and outright untruths; on grossly distorted, altered, and abused language and reasoning; on lived experience and desire, and on a need to avoid invalidation.
On reality fanfiction.
Living in opposition to reality is a surefire way to induce overwhelming helplessness and, as you can guess, this helplessness results in severe mental and physical illness.
Don’t believe me? Try driving your car in a foot of snow while imagining that, in the reality of your lived experience, it’s actually a warm summer day. Reality is going to check you, and agency is the last thing you’ll experience when it does.
Obsession with Safety:
Thanks to therapy culture, to what has become of contemporary social science and psychology, to the pervasiveness and reverence of mental illness in followers of Wokeness, as well as to their purposeful identification with helplessness against life, safety has become a fetishized goal in the lives of the Woke. I won’t get into exactly how and why this happened, but let’s discuss why it’s not only wrong, but absolutely disastrous.
Say you’re lost in the woods and you can choose one of the following companions. Which do you choose?
1. Someone who can point out every potential danger
2. Someone who can skillfully deal with every potential danger
The Woke ideology encourages the selection of #1, and ruthlessly attacks even the idea of #2. Merit, after all, is just another tool of white supremacy, patriarchy, oppression, etc.
Agency is only a virtue in Woke ideology insofar as it can be used to further the movement, its assertions, beliefs, values, etc. COLLECTIVE AGENCY. Individual agency is anathema to the Woke ideology, as the very concept of it is at odds with the behaviors and beliefs required by the Woke in order to preserve the ideology. An individual with value for truth and agency cannot be a resentful, revolutionary victim; such an individual has no interest in, or use for these things.
For the Woke, the goal is to forcibly create a world of “safety”. For normal, healthy, reality-adherent people, the goal is to learn how to deal with unsafe experiences, as they understand these experiences can never be eradicated entirely, or even largely.
The Woke, perhaps more than anything else, demonstrate a tragically poor understanding of certain realities of the human experience, and of the nature of reality, itself. Their understanding of these things is reliably and profoundly desire and ideologically-oriented, instead of grounded in truth; it is in service to what they wish people, and the world, could be, instead of what they are capable of becoming, in reality. A sufficiently Woke person desires and seeks to achieve absolute safety in all areas of life, because their lives are so often defined by surviving in helplessness. This tendency can be observed in nearly all people suffering from chronic anxiety/depression, and not just in the Woke.
A helpless person intuitively understands they are ineffective against danger, and so they seek to both avoid it, and eradicate it from life. The more often they avoid danger, the worse they become at dealing with it, as they have purposefully removed opportunities to improve their competency in dealing with it. Perhaps even worse, a person who has no skill in dealing with danger will come to experience a sense of danger where it would not have otherwise existed. In their attempt to avoid danger, they increasingly create more opportunities to experience it. What might a person experience once they have conditioned themselves to CONSTANTLY feel unsafe?
You guessed it, they experience profound and frequent helplessness.
What might have been an utterly innocuous experience for a healthy person, becomes a potentially traumatic and debilitating experience for a Woke person. Nearly everything in their lives has become a potential opportunity for debilitating distress. Since danger is ineradicable, and they have conditioned themselves to be helpless against it, they can expect to experience constant and severe anxiety, depression, trauma, identity disorders, etc. They learn to survive their lives, instead of live them, and they learn to blame this self-induced experience of danger on anyone other than themselves.
If you take away anything from this post, it should be this:
ALL sufficiently Woke people will eventually come to SURVIVE (instead of live) their lives in constant states of fear, resentment, self-loathing, polarization, and mental and physical illness. The ideology attracts these people because:
It provides them with a false sense of purpose, value, and validation for these painful feelings, beliefs, and experiences
It validates and reveres any and all marginalized identities (real, fabricated, and delusional)
It rewards their marginalization with social capital, belonging, elevation, positive attention, and protection from potentially invalidating sources
It grants them a sense of purpose and virtue - it convinces them they are fighting for things like human rights, justice, love, eradicating bigotry, etc.
It ruthlessly destroys those whom the Woke blame for their resentment, granting them additional undeserved agency and virtue, in the process
It encourages them to ignore and deny uncomfortable realities, and surrounds them with others who do the same, will help each other do so, and attack anyone who refuses to play along
It validates their pathological need for safety, and surrounds them with people who will facilitate and encourage it
It helps them validate every bad choice in their lives by teaching them to blame both their problems, and the problems of their Woke “tribe”, on everyone else
Wokeness is a safe haven for the malcontented, and for the “innocent” caregivers and activists of the malcontented. To these people, Wokeness is a promise of elevation and validation; it is an opportunity to rid the world of all injustices and wrongdoing, whether or not those things actually exist in reality, or to what extent they exist (typically orders of magnitude lower/less severe than what is claimed by the Woke, if not outright fabricated).
If a person isn’t already mentally and/or physically ill upon being corrupted by Wokeness, then they can expect to be eventually. Those who have a deeply ingrained respect for truth/reality may withstand the effects longer than others but, eventually, corruption is guaranteed.
If we let it, Wokeness will destroy everything good in life. It has already made shocking progress.
We cannot allow this to happen. Nor can we allow the pendulum to inevitably swing back to the right with the same intensity it has swung to the left.
This must be stopped. Now is the time to speak up and save reality.
